Yesterday, I shared with you the $20 dresser I repainted Pure White by Sherwin Williams. Previously, I kept the old hardware on the dresser, but I wanted a change. I ultimately decided on gold because we have a white kitchen with black hardware, and I wanted to switch it up. This DIY is such an easy and quick change. Here’s how to spray paint hardware gold.
Finding New Hardware
I couldn’t find anything I really liked in the size I needed (3.5 inches) that was also budget friendly. The top of the dresser has 4 ring pulls that are custom to the piece that I knew I was going to have to reuse. Therefore, I needed only four new handles. Considering all these factors, I purchased four inexpensive pulls for the bottom of the dresser and spray painted them gold! This way the gold would be consistent on the entire piece.
I purchased the 4 new pulls from Lowe’s online. They were $3.97 per pull with free shipping. I liked the clean lines and thought they would compliment the ring pulls I had to reuse. They came in oil rubbed bronze, but I knew I was going to spray paint them anyway to keep the old and new looking cohesive.
The Hardware Before
Here is a before shot of the old pulls (top), the new pulls, and the ring pulls I had to reuse (left).
Prepping + Spray Painting the Hardware
To start, I lightly sanded down the hardware. Make sure the hardware is clean and before spraying. Also make sure to spray light coats and wait for them to dry in between coats. I did a total of three coats.
The Hardware After
I love the shine and metallic look of this spray paint. The gold and bright white really modernize the thrifted piece. And doesn’t every dresser need a cute little tassel to finish it off?!
Changing up the hardware on a piece of furniture really makes a difference! Mixing and matching old with new, but keeping it cohesive with gold spray paint gives it a custom feel. This is such an easy and inexpensive upgrade! I hope this helps with how to spray paint hardware gold if you’re thinking about tackling it! XO
