Combating a Squeaky Door

The door that leads into our mudroom (from our garage) gets the most use in our house.  The kids and I are in and out several times a day, I open it to recycle things and throw out the trash.  We have lived in the new house for 8 months, and I have had to WD-40 the door hinges three times.  After the second time, I decided to ask our builder if there was anything I could do to make the squeaking stop.  They said that the door is so heavy (because it is a fire door) that over time it will just start to squeak.

Leaving the noise would not work for me.  I would have to just keep oiling the hinges.  Working with the WD-40 was starting to become a mess as it was getting on the wall and dripping down the trim after I sprayed it, and it made the house smell.  I saw on Pinterest that you can use mineral oil for so many things, including oiling your door hinges.

I already had some under my sink (I also use this to oil my cutting boards), so I thought I would give it a try.  So far, so good!  The squeaking stopped immediately and it was so easy to apply!  I soaked a cotton ball with the mineral oil and applied to the hinges.  Super easy, no mess, and no odor.  This is my new go-to for all things squeaky!!  You can see I purchased my mineral oil at Walgreens (around $5).  Have you ever used mineral oil?  Any other tips?
