Cake Batter Rice Crispy Treats

Kate recently turned 3, and she celebrated at her preschool before we moved.  I decided to make her class some fun rice crispy treats that I "pinned".  Super easy, and super festive!  Much like the regular rice crispy treats, with a twist - just add some yellow cake mix and sprinkles!

I cut into squares and individually wrapped for easy distribution.  A homemade treat that takes about 10 minutes to prep!

Move Update

Well, we made the two day trip to Kansas City and have gotten settled into our new digs...a 2 bed, 2 bath hotel room.  It is not ideal, but it is part of the process when you move.  We are grateful for the opportunities we have been given and I am trying to stay positive!  We were welcomed to the midwest with a nice wind storm on the way here, in which I thought my car was going to blow over!  It has also been in the 40's and has rained since we have been here.  Welcome back to the midwest in November!

We are super excited to be here and have already accomplished a lot.  Upon arriving, we got right to house hunting.  We bought a house the first day!  It was the only one that seemed "right" to us after looking at about 70 homes (new and resale).  We ended up going with new construction that is about 45 days out from completion.  The bones of the construction are finished, but we get to pick all the fun stuff!  We have been making so many decisions and it has been a super fun process.  I love that I get to customize it to our taste!

Here is a sneak peak!  We will be in the hotel a little longer, but we have so much to be thankful for!

In the meantime, we are heading to my sister's for Thanksgiving.  We are definitely excited to be able to drive to see family, instead of having to hop on a plane.

I am also working on getting a new preschool, pediatrician, and all the other things that come with a new city.  The kid's have blown us away with their ability to just go with the flow.  It is amazing how quickly a new city can start to feel like home...

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Teacher Gifts: Personalized Chalkboard Doors

As we prepared to leave San Antonio, I knew I wanted to make something for all four of the kid's preschool teachers.  My kids were blessed to attend a wonderful preschool with loving teachers and we will miss them greatly.

For Kate's teachers (whom Drew also had last year), I decided to make chalkboard cabinet doors.  Perfect for a teacher, functional, and something to always remember us by!

I wanted to keep things neutral.  I used paints from my stash, including a mocha brown and a charcoal grey.  I trimmed them out in a stark white to coordinate with the monogrammed knob (Hobby Lobby).

I then tied a piece of dustless chalk to the knob (with twine) and wrapped with a bow (meant to be a going away gift/Christmas gift).

I found the knobs on clearance for $0.81 and the doors cost me $3.  Adding the chalk, paint, and bow, and you are looking at just under $5 each!  More to come on Drew's teacher gifts in a future post!

Build-a-Bear Party Invites

My super crafty and creative friend passed out these adorable invites at Drew's preschool a few weeks ago.   Her daughter is one of Drew's besties (and one of his "girlfriends").  Yes, I said "one of".  I'm pretty sure he thinks all three of the girls in his room are his "best girls"!

The party was at Build-a-Bear, so she actually made an invite where you do just that!  She sewed all of these herself-how cute!!

I asked my friend if her daughter was wanting anything in particular for her birthday.  She mentioned to me that she has been wanting the Ken Groom Doll because she thinks it looks like Drew!  Ha-young preschool love!  So, we got her the doll and this is what he looks lips and all!

We recently went to this party and the kids had a blast!   We have gotten Build-a-Bears as gifts, but had never done it ourselves.   Drew picked out a longhorn and named it "Tex", and Kate picked the seasonal reindeer and named it "Bambi".

I just had to share those adorable invites!  I wish I sewed.  Maybe one day...when the kids go off to school!

Recent Happenings

The movers come this week, so we have a lot going on around here, but I wanted to get caught up on sharing some random pics.  Here is what we have been up to lately...

To know Drew is to know his love of all sports.  To play them, learn about them, study player's moves, watch them on TV, and ask questions about them is what he lives for.

We had his last soccer game on Saturday.  He excelled at soccer this season and we are so proud of him.  He is so happy when he plays and continues to have tremendous focus at such a young age.  I hope this love of sports continues.  He has already informed us that he wants to play hockey and football when we move to KC.  Thanks for chosing the two most dangerous sports!

It seems that everyone we know was born in Aug-Nov (including my own)! We have recently been to a sports party, a "Kiddie Park" party, and a Build-A-Bear Party.

Getting an autograph from the Spurs Mascot, The Coyote!

Talk about focus!  Look at that tongue!

How cute was this for a sports party?!  "Game day" food to eat and Big League Chew, Crackerjacks, and Spurs balls to take home!

Kiddie Park fun with his "best girl"!

First Build-a-Bear party experience!

Watching a lot of football!!  Go Bears!  Go Hawkeyes!

A random shot of me and my sister in KC-can't wait to be closer to her!

The kids enjoying an ice cream treat!

Hope you all had a great weekend!

Move Update

Good news...our house in SA went under contract in just 3 short weeks!  Woo hoo!  Because of this, we are moving to Kansas City a bit faster than we thought.  The movers come next week, so I have been busy decluttering, organizing, spackling, touching up paint, etc.  One good thing about moving as much as we do is that our clutter and excess is at a minimum.  I find it so much easier to have a clear mind when my home isn't full of "stuff".

We did not find a home in KC on our first house hunting trip.  We don't like to rush into buying anything, so we will be moving into a hotel for the hoiday season.  Doesn't that sound cozy and inviting??  Not!

At least my sister is only 3 hours away, so the kids and I will probably be moving in with them before long!  When we moved to San Antonio 16 months ago, we lived in a hotel for 30 days.  It was 110 degrees, living in about 300 sq. ft. with an 18 month old, a 2.5 year old, two Great Danes, and one cat.  It was not a joyous time in my life.  I loathe hotel living.  My kids couldn't be more excited.  My husband cannot understand why I wouldn't be happy about not cooking or cleaning for 2 months.  Um, did I fail to mention that I still have two toddlers, now one dog :(, still one cat, and now it will be the dead of winter??

Finding a home when we officially move next week is our #1 priority, and I am confident we will find something soon!!  This little family is getting excited about our new adventure. . .

As long as we have each other, we can get through any transition...except maybe the transition to the cold weather.  I am absolutely dreading it!  :)

Pizza Dip

I tried another new appetizer dip-Pinterest, of course.  I have since made it 3 times because my husband and I can't get enough!  We normally are not pepperoni pizza people, but for some reason we love the green pepper and pepperoni combo.

Served atop of slices of hearty bread, this makes for a meal.  The possibilities are endless with what you could put in or on this dip.  Super easy to make.  Your family will thank you!

The original recipe calls for black olives, which we do not do in our house.  I also added some italian season on top of mine to give it a bit more flavor.   It seems that everything I have choosen to make lately has cream cheese in it-no wonder everything has been a hit! :)

You can find the recipe and original "pin" at

Three More Jewelry Holders

The old window frame jewelry holder that I blogged about has been one of my most viewed projects.  Something about the chippy window and the chicken wire...

In the past few months, I decided to make a few more jewelry/earring holders to sell in the booth.

#1-Goodwill frame ($1), turquoise paint, distressing, staining, chicken wire, gold knob from Anthropologie.

We had gorgeous weather for Halloween!  Our Bears football player and bumble bee had a blast running around the neighborhood.  As with most things, the anticipation was half the fun.  We have more candy than we know what to do with and we didn't even go to that many houses!
