Apple Cupcakes

I just love Pinterest.  It seems that in every recent post I am talking about how I got an idea or recipe from Pinterest.  Such a simple idea, yet so wonderful!  I know we are all thinking, "Why didn't I think of that"?

Kate was due to bring snack to preschool last week, so I decided to make her class some apple cupcakes (that I had pinned to my "Fall" board).  They are so eye catching, adorable, and so appropriate for this time of year.

All of the pictures below are mine, but the original post can be found at http://www.makeandtakes.com/apple-shaped-cupcakes.

These are super simple to make. They key to making these look like apples in the indent in the cupcake holder.  People have used marbles, but I didn't have any, so I used little tin foil balls.

All you need is a cake mix, frosting, red food coloring, pretzel sticks, and green gum drops.  I couldn't find green gum drops, but I found these fruit slices at the Dollar Tree.  I grabbed the container that had the most green ones.

I used A LOT of red food coloring and they still turned out a little pinkish, but they looked close enough!

I broke a pretzel stick in half, slid it in the top and added the gum drop.  That's it!  So cute and easy!

Kate couldn't wait to show her teachers and share them with her friends!  Happy Fall!

  1. Very cute! I learned that a bit of cocoa powder with the food coloring turns pink into red.

  5. Those are seriously adorable!! I am so going to be making some soon. :-) I have had the same trouble with red food coloring where no matter how much I add it still has that pink-ish tint. Glad to know it's not just me! Thanks so much for sharing this with us at Inspiration Friday!
