Tuesday Tip: Removing Wood Stain From Hands/Skin

I use a lot of paint and wood stain for different projects in my home and pieces I sell.  In the past I have been diligent about using rubber gloves when staining.  Lately, I have just been using bare hands when using smaller pieces.  The gloves seem clumsy and in the way.

That being said, my hands and nailbeds look like I have been working on cars all day!  Not cute!  I searched the internet and found out that I could use vegetable oil to remove wood stain from skin.  I poured a little in a bowl, soaked my nailbeds and hands, scrubbed, and washed with dishsoap to remove oil.  I did this process twice and to my surprise, it worked!!

Do you know of any other uses for vegetable oil besides the obvious??

  1. Thanks so much for this post! I was staining wood pallets today and didn't think to wear gloves. Was beginning to panic when I couldn't get it off but through googling found your post! Veggie oil worked perfectly!!

    1. Jessica, so glad it worked for you too! Who would have thought?!

  2. THANK YOU for this post. I was staining my new tool rack, and didn't realize I wasn't wearing gloves until it was too late. I don't keep turpentine around and was at a loss how to get the sticky off my hands. This worked great!
