Sunburst mirrors are ALL OVER blogland, and the inspiration for mine came from JandJ Home via this post. I thought I knew where I was going to hang this before I made it, now I am not so sure. I ended up liking the look and the scale much more than I thought I was going to!
It was easy. It was inexpensive. I love the natural look of it with the cedar shims.
I used the same supplies and tutorial from JandJ Home:
2 flat craft rings (large and medium sized)
2 packs of cedar shims (got mine from Home Depot)
glue gun and glue sticks
12" round mirror
I had enough shims to do 3 layers. I glued the last two layers closer to the center and filled in where it looked bare (remember, I am an eyeballer :).
I picked up a 12" mirror from Hobby Lobby and glued it in the center with wood glue.
I put a stack of books and a heavy candle holder on top of the mirror over night.
I have not hung the mirror yet, because I haven't decided where it is going! I will post a pic when it finally finds a home!
Cost breakdown:
2 packs cedar shims - $10 at Home Depot
Large craft ring - $3.99 (but used 40% of coupon at Michael's)
Small craft ring - $1.99
15 glue sticks - I buy packs of 20 for $1 at Dollar Tree
12" Mirror - $5.99 (but used a 40% coupon at Hobby Lobby)
Total cost was just under $20- I'll take it!
